Welcome to Somewhat Okay Guides. My name is Gruutal, and I'll be talking to you about League's newest champion. But first, let's learn about Varus's background a bit. "For his incomparable skill with the bow and his unquestioned sense of honor, Varus was chosen to be the warden of a sacred Ionian temple. The temple was built to contain an ancient pit of corruption so vile that Ionian Elders feared it could envelop the island in darkness. Varus prided himself on his position, as only the most exceptional Ionian warriors were selected for the role. He lived with his family in a nearby village and led a quiet life of disciplined routine until the day the forces of Noxus invaded Ionia. Their shock troops left nothing but death and desolation in their wake, and the temple lay in their path. Varus was forced to make a decision. He was bound by honor to stay and defend the temple, but without him the village's few inhabitants could offer little resistance against the oncoming war machine. Gravely, he chose to fulfill his duty as a warden. The corruption could not be allowed to escape. His arrows sundered the troops who tried to wrest the temple from him that day. However, when he returned to his village, he found that it had been reduced to a smoldering graveyard. Remorse at the sight of his slain family gave way to overwhelming regret and then to seething hatred. He swore to slaughter every Noxian invader, but first he needed to become stronger. He turned to that which he had sacrificed everything to protect. The pit of corruption would consume him wholly, as a flame devours a wick, but its abominable power would burn within him until he was lost. This was a path from which there could be no return. With grim resolve, he condemned himself to the black flames, feeling malevolent energy bond to his skin... and with it, the promise of ruin. He left, seeking the blood of all Noxians involved with the invasion, a grisly task that eventually led him to the invasion's most infamous perpetrators in the League of Legends." -League of Legends Official Site |

Passive: Living Vengeance This innate ability gives Varus a 20% attack speed buff for 3 seconds after killing an enemy minion, or a 40% attack speed buff for 6 seconds after killing an enemy Champion. Killing another minion or Champion will refresh the duration, with the Champion kill buff overriding the minion kill buff. Q: Piercing Arrow This is Varus's high damage output ability. It is a skill shot with an increasing range the longer it is held. However, while this ability is held, Varus will acquire a 20% movement speed debuff. This will detonate any stacks of Blight affecting hit targets. W: Blighted Quiver This ability makes Varus's auto attacks apply a debuff known as Blight. Blight will stack up to three times on a single target, lasting for 6 seconds. Subsequent attacks refresh the duration of the debuff. If Varus hits an enemy that is currently affected by Blight, the debuff will detonate, dealing magic damage in addition to the other ability's damage to the affected target. E: Hail of Arrows This ability fires a small, damaging Area of Effect a short distance from Varus, which slows enemies who are caught in it, and reduces their healing ability's effectiveness by 50%. This will detonate any stacks of Blight affecting hit targets. R: Chain of Corruption This is Varus's ultimate. It is a short distance skill shot. When it collides with an enemy, it will immobalize them for 2 seconds. It will then spread from them, seeking additional enemy champions. If other enemy champions are close enough, they will then be immobalized for 2 seconds as well. This will only affect each opposing Champion once. |
Recommended Summoner Spells |
D: Flash Flash teleports your champion a short distance away, toward the current location of your cursor. While it takes some practice to master, Flash can be used to retreat from enemies, chase enemies, or juke through walls. It is one of the best choices of summoner spells, regardless of the Champion you're playing. F: Ignite Ignite is a great choice for any AD Carry, so it's right up Varus's alley. The true damage and healing debuff are too good to pass up. This, along with a good lane partner will often net you a first blood, and it scales well into late game thanks to the debuff it applies. |
Recommended Item Build |
Doran's Blade Doran's blade is a fairly good starting item for most AD Champions. The Lifesteal and Health it provides early game are essential, though you should sell this mid-late game when you're just short on gold to buy an item. Berserker's Greaves Berserker's Greaves are pretty much your best choice on Varus, especially if the enemy doesn't have heavy Crowd Control. These should be the first item you get that you will keep, but don't sell your Doran's Blade to get them, as you'll gimp yourself on damage. Infinity Edge Infinity Edge is your priority now, as getting it will greatly boost damage, making you a real threat to enemies. You are however still very squishy, so use guerilla tactics. Bloodthirster Bloodthirster will give you even more damage, along with some lifesteal, which will increase your survivability, assuming you can make a trip or two into jungle and aren't under heavy fire. Phantom Dancer Phantom Dancer grants movement speed as well as more attack damage, making it much harder for enemies to escape you. You should be a true terror at this point, just be sure to stay in the back. You are still squishy. Do not forget this fact. Last Whisper Last Whisper grants a huge boost to attack speed, which along with your passive should have you demolishing towers and adding up Blight stacks fairly quickly. Banshee's Veil Banshee's Veil will be your last item, adding a bit of defense against the Crowd Control that is likely all aimed at you at this point. |
